Rev. Al Sharpton and National Action Network Holds Press Conference on Anti-Asian Discrimination with AAPI Community Leaders and NYC Mayoral Candidates

On the morning of March 18, Reverend Al Sharpton and the National Action Network held a rally at the House of Justice in Harlem, NY to denounce anti-Asian discrimination and hate incidents. Those in attendance included KAAGNY, the Asian American Federation, the Chinese-American Planning Council, and New York City mayoral candidates.

Bringing attention to the violence and discrimination against Asian Americans, Reverend Al Sharpton said in his address, "We must stand together against hate crimes against Asian Americans. The attacks have only heightened, and the brutal and vicious killings yesterday in Atlanta has only made this even more necessary for us to take a strong and unequivocal united stand against hate crimes against Asians."

The Reverend continued, "We want to do it very openly and unequivocally in the African American community because we know hate so well."

"It's now not just stabbings, the spitting, the macing of the face, not just the insults. Now it's shooting at businesses," KAAGNY President Charles Yoon said at the rally.

"Reverend Sharpton, you have convened us together to denounce what has happened and opened your arms to our community to say 'We stand with you', and to us, that is incredibly, incredibly comforting."
