David Chung of Farmacy Beauty Donates $100,000 to Share the Love Campaign
Following H-Mart’s announcement of a $500,000 match donation to the Share the Love Campaign, David Chung (Farmacy Beauty, CEO and Founder) has also announced his support of the campaign to provide food relief to Korean American families experiencing food insecurity.
On October 5, Mr. David Chung pledged $100,000 to the Share the Love Food Relief Campaign. At the time of Mr. Chung’s donation, KAAGNY has raised $635,000 (including Mr. Chung’s contribution and the match donation from H-Mart.)
Below is a (translated) interview with Mr. David Chung.
Why did you donate to the Share the Love Food Relief Campaign?
Mr. Chung: After meeting with [KAAGNY President] Charles Yoon, I heard about how much difficulty members of the Korean community are experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those who have not been able to receive assistance from the government. After hearing about the plans to launch this campaign, I was more than enthusiastic to participate and contribute to the campaign.
What does ‘donation’ mean to you?
Mr. Chung: Donation is to give back to the world that I live in, to give what I have gained to the community, and to share compassion and love to those in need without any expectations of return.
What is your philosophy as it pertains to donating?
Mr. Chung: Generosity and donating should not be a special event, but rather an every day practice.
What are your principles, whether in business or in your personal life?
Mr. Chung: To build and solidify my reputation with others based in principles of faith and trust.
What sort of changes do you expect or would like to see in the Korean American community through the Share the Love Food Relief Campaign?
Mr. Chung: Donation is more than just an act of generosity towards those in need. What I’ve come to learn is that it is our sacred, natural duty to empower others so that we may all live in a fair and just society. My hope is that this culture of giving and sharing will spread in our community through this fundraising campaign.
Do you have a message for those who are experiencing difficulty during the pandemic?
Mr. Chung: The whole world is suffering in the face of the COVID-19 disaster. In these difficult times, I would hope that you can find courage in people in our society who are working hard to uplift and empower the marginalized. There is a hopeful future after this, and we will get through this difficult period together.
Any words for those who are considering to participate in the Share the Love Campaign?
Mr. Chung: As a Korean American, I am so grateful that I am able to share what I have with my community. I hope that you too can feel the joy of sharing and uplifting others. Small donations are a driving force behind change in the world, and I hope that you will take the opportunity to join me and participate in the Share the Love Food Relief Campaign.
