Shake-N-Go Donates $50,000 to Share the Love Campaign
On October 8, President Kwang Suk Kim of hair manufacturing company Shake-N-Go made a donation of $50,000 to the Share the Love Food Relief Campaign.
Upon his donation to the campaign, Mr. Kim said, “I hope that those who are experiencing difficulty during the COVID-19 pandemic will remember that this will pass and that we will get through this together.” When asked about those who may feel some concerns about participating in the fundraising campaign, Mr. Kim said, “I believe that, if we share however much we can, we can put our efforts together to exercise an enormous power to positively impact the lives of others. I hope that, through contributions big and small, our community can create a culture of giving and joy.”
In the past, Mr. Kim made a financial contribution of $100,000 to the preservation of the KAAGNY building in Chelsea, Manhattan.
Below is a (translated) interview with Mr. Kwang Suk Kim.
Why did you donate to the Share the Love Food Relief Campaign?
Mr. Kim: As a Korean American who lives in New York, I believe that those who are in positions to participate in this fundraiser should do so. I was deeply impressed by [KAAGNY] and those who are leading the Share the Love campaign. To those who are experiencing difficulty during the pandemic, I hope that you can persevere and remember that “this too shall pass.”
What does ‘donation’ mean to you?
Mr. Kim: For me, donating is an act of sharing one’s wealth or talents and putting it towards the development and well-being of one’s community.
What is your philosophy as it pertains to donating?
Mr. Kim: I commend those who use their time and talents to empower their neighbors. For much of my life as I was building my business, I did not have enough time or opportunities to do volunteer work and give back to my community, but I am happy to be in a position where I am able to directly support those in need and the individuals who are putting in great effort to enact positive change in the lives of others.
What are your principles, whether in business or in your personal life?
Mr. Kim: It’s all about giving your employees the opportunity to live happy and fulfilling lives, to create wealth for our hard-working customers, and to give happiness to the people who use our products.
What sort of changes do you expect or would like to see in the Korean American community through the Share the Love Food Relief Campaign?
Mr. Kim: I think one of the reasons that America is the most powerful nation in the world is its culture of giving. America’s donation culture, in which we, as members of society, voluntarily come forward to empower the welfare of others before our government is able to [make and implement policy decisions] can have truly beautiful and efficient results. I’m hopeful that this culture of giving will also blossom in not only our Korean community, but also in our homeland [South Korea].
Any words for those who are considering to participate in the Share the Love Campaign?
Mr. Kim: Even small donations have a great impact. By gathering everyone’s contributions, no matter how big or small, we can exert great power to enact positive change in the lives of others. I hope that as many people can join me in this campaign to ‘Share the Love’ and participate in a culture of giving according to their individual circumstances.
