On March 25, KAAGNY hosted an online event to bring together leaders from various minority groups in New York City to share insights on how best to combat discrimination, racism, and hate.
In attendance were Charles Yoon (KAAGNY, President), Michael Schmidt (Director, American Jewish Committee, New York Regional Office), Frankie Miranda (President, Hispanic Federation), Ken Cohen (President, NAACP Northeast Queens Branch and Regional Director, NAACP NYS Conference Metropolitan Council), and Joo Han (Deputy Executive Director, Asian American Federation).
The panelists discussed resources for bystander intervention, immigration reform, the urgency to hold institutions accountable for racism and bigotry, and the need to build solidarity across racial, religious, class, and ethnic lines.
The panelists were also joined by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Congresswoman Grace Meng, NYS Senator John Liu, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, and NYC Councilman Peter Koo, who shared how they are working for anti-racism and equality at the federal, state, and local levels.
